POLIO AND TIGDAS MASS IMMUNIZATION IN RIZAL, A SUCCESS

PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, Antipolo City – Rizal Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Iluminado Victoria reported that the measles/polio mass immunization campaign in the entire province was a success. The campaign was in response to the Department of Health’s “Ligtas sa Tigdas at Polio” campaign launched early September of this year. In a report to Rizal Gov. Nini Ynares, Dr. Victoria said that from the month-long saturation campaign all over the province, there were 81.12% or 269,779 out of 332, 556 toddlers aged five years old and above that were given the measles-rubella vaccines. While 78.20% or 305,260 out of 390,360 children of the same age were given the oral polio vaccines. The success of the campaign was largely due to the all-out campaign of the province using the mass media, social web and even house-to-house campaign conducted by the various medical teams from the province and its 14 local government units (LGUs), including Antipolo City. Meanwhile, PHO announced that the measles and polio vaccination is extended for another week.

“It has always been our commitment to provide the basic health care programs to our constituents. I’m just glad that through the concerted efforts of all concerned, we were able to have very good results with our measles and polio mass immunization campaign in the province,” remarked Gov. Ynares.
